Story & Atmosphere
Fried Rice is a charming, no-frills eatery located at 2419 S Glendale St in Wichita, KS, renowned for delivering exceptional value and flavor in every bite. This locally owned, mom-and-pop spot has built a loyal following over decades, thanks to its standout offerings centered around perfectly cooked fried rice paired with crispy, handmade egg rolls. For just $7, you get a generous serving—a full pound of rice—plus two egg rolls and a drink, making it one of the best meal deals around.
The star here is undoubtedly the fried rice. It’s a comforting blend of tender chicken, succulent pork, and tiny shrimp, seasoned just right to balance savory and subtle flavors. Many patrons, including long-time customers, praise its consistent quality and satisfying portions. The egg rolls, while occasionally a bit greasy, are handmade and pack a flavorful punch that complements the rice beautifully. The crab rangoon, a notable side option, impresses with its rich, savory taste and avoids the overly sweet versions found elsewhere, earning high marks from first-time tasters.
While Fried Rice operates as a cash-only, takeout-only spot, with no dine-in service, this simplicity translates into quick service and affordability. The experience is straightforward, honest, and focused on delivering quality comfort food fast—perfect for those looking for a hearty meal without the frills. The friendly, smiley service adds a warm touch, making each visit feel personal despite the casual setting.
In essence, Fried Rice embodies the spirit of a neighborhood gem: unpretentious, affordable, and reliable. Whether you come for the classic chicken fried rice or crave the savory egg rolls, you’re treated to satisfying, flavorful food that’s easy on the pocket. It’s a spot that you’ll find yourself returning to, drawn by its blend of taste, value, and no-nonsense charm.
“ $7 for a literal pound of the best fried rice I've ever had, a pop AND 2 handmade egg rolls? In this economy? And $4 for the crab Rangoon (amazing and not the sweet version, 10/10). I had lunch and dinner for 2 for $18. Service was quick and super friendly. Do yourself a favor and check them out. ”
“ We stopped in today to check out a Lillie quaint hole in wall Fried Rice place. The rice was really nice. With it being a pleasant visit. The crab rangoon was just okay.. according to the wife. The egg roll were pretty good. A little greasy... but good. The chicken and or pork fried rice good as well. It is a good place to try. I am not sure how much I would frequent. But, would return. ”
“ Been a patron about 30 years. Locally owned mom and pop store with the special of fried rice and 2 eggs rolls and drink for $7. Awesome rice. ”
“ Me and my girlfriend decided to pay a visit to Fried Rice on E. Pawnee. Its my first time coming here in over a decade. I ended up going with combo fried rice which came with bits of red pork, tiny shrimp, and chicken chunks. Back in the early 2000's if I remember correctly, everything was made to order. But today, they already had the fried rice put together. Everything was still warm though. Obviously it wasn't cooked too long before I got there. I'll have to say, the fried rice was just decent. Nothing too special about it. But the egg rolls were delicious. They were stuffed with meat, noodles and cabbage with a bunch of black pepper. I throughly enjoyed them. There was also a choice of canned pop that came with the meal. I went with grape. All in all, for seven dollars, you can't beat that price for what you got. ”
